THE FAITH OF JESUS #2 "WHAT IS FAITH?"

THE FAITH OF JESUS #2

"WHAT IS FAITH?"

Before we examine what Faith is, lets first established what Faith is not:

  1. Faith is not 'hope': to want something to happen or be true and think that it could happen or be true
  2. Faith is not 'realization': the state of understanding or becoming aware of something
  3. Faith is not 'sense knowledge': an emotional knowing or feelings your body experiences

We shall examine how Faith is neither 'hope' nor 'realization' nor 'sense knowledge', and we shall see how they are regarded as 'enemies of faith'.

WHAT THEN IS FAITH?

The most popular and basic description of Faith in the Scriptures is:

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

Jesus gave evidences of this basic description of faith in several places in Scriptures. Faith is seeing the future in the present, it is giving evidence to what has not yet happen believing

The

OTHER DESCRIPTIONS OF FAITH (IN JESUS)

  1. Faith in Jesus is a gift: we don't earn it, neither does anyone has a better position of faith than others, for it is all by grace, a gift.

(Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV) says: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

  1. Faith in Jesus sponsors Righteousness: The legal rights, privilege and ability to stand and appear before God without guilts or sense of sin is made possible by faith in Jesus, by the legal price of justification He paid on the cross on our behalf.

"But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus." (Romans 3:21-26 NKJV)

  1. Faith in Jesus is sponsors eternal life: Faith in Jesus do jot just sponsor Righteousness, it also sponsors eternal life (the life of Christ in eternity). This life sponsored by faith in Jesus is  possession of the believer. Jesus said:  "

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life." (John 6:47), this is in line with what we have earlier mention (it is a gift, not by our works)

John the beloved went further to describe this saying;

"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5:12-13)

  1. Faith in Jesus sponsors Salvation: Salvation is a divine provision for humanity to be restored back to their redemptive status, but this can only be a reality by Faith in Jesus. Paul explained this in his epistles to the Romans, he said:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9-10)
