JESUS AND THE KINGDOM #2
"WHY JESUS SPOKE IN PARABLES"
Jesus talks so much about the Kingdom of Heaven/God. In Matthew gospel, He uses "The Kingdom of Heaven" more than thirty (30) times, while other gospels like Mark, Luke and John uses "The Kingdom of God" more. Question; What are the difference between The Kingdom of Heaven and The Kingdom of God? We shall treat this question later in this series.
Our focus in this (#2) is to further examine The Parables of the Kingdom and specifically to understand why Jesus spoke many times in Parables (Matthew 3:3).
We must understand that; the Parables Jesus spoke about are not mere stories, but are truth and illustrations that impart instructions and rebuke without causing offense.
Why Jesus used Parables:
Lets examine some reasons why Jesus spoke in Parables.
- To reveal truth in a form intended to create more interest (Matthew 13:10-11,16)
- To make known new truths to interested hearers (Matthew 13:11-12,16-17)
- To make known mysteries by comparison with things already known (Matthew 13:11)
- To conceal truth from disinterested hearers and rebels at heart (Matthew 13:11-15)
- To add truth to those who love it and want more of it (Matthew 13:12)
- To take truth away from those who hate and do not want it (Matthew 13:12)
- To fulfill prophecy (Matthew 13:14-17,35)
